AIRDAT expanded existing Onboard software capabilities to allow Manchester Airport to streamline the concessions process.

The challenge

Manchester Airport was using a legacy system to provide multiple concessions on airport parking. Private hire drivers are able to apply for up to a 40% discount on the published forecourt and car park prices. While local residents in a defined postal area can apply for free drop-off and pick-up access using an annual permit.
Applicants for both concessions were required to fill in forms manually resulting in additional admin work for the airport staff. The process had become outdated and the team at Manchester Airport identified an opportunity to make it simpler for applicants.

“Manchester were already using our Passport and Onboard systems. They saw an opportunity to upgrade their legacy concession scheme and knew our Onboard functionality could help them to streamline and automate the process.”

Rupert Willis, AIRDAT COO

The Solution

The paper-based process was ready for an upgrade and AIRDAT’s Onboard assurance and fleet management system was a fitting solution to the problem. By building a simple licence form and vehicle permit application into the system, applicants to the scheme could apply online. This resulted in a significant decrease in admin and saved both applicants and airport staff time and effort.

With the new scheme, Manchester Airport staff could easily check and approve the concession cards. The billing process was brought online, which removed the likelihood of error and simplified the process, allowing staff to focus on other business critical matters.

Onboard was used to improve, update and streamline the existing permit process. All permit documentation is filed in one easy-to-access place within the Onboard system and both Manchester Airport Staff and concession holders are notified when licences are due for renewal.

The Result

AIRDAT’s Onboard system was already in use at the airport for Airside Operators Licensing (AOL), after approaching us with the challenge, the AIRDAT team configured Onboard in a way not envisaged before to meet their needs and fit seamlessly into Manchester Airport’s operations.

The new system saved a considerable amount of time compared with the previous paper-based, manual system. New applicants simply need to create an AIRDAT Onboard login to register, and the billing process is now automated saving airport employees from a lengthy admin endeavour.

The upgrade was such a success that Manchester Airport saw thousands of new applications in the first few months of the system going live.

“The implementation of AIRDAT Onboard has streamlined and significantly improved the productivity of all our application processing. Myself and the team would also like to express our full appreciation for all the help and support you have provided, and the amazing support team who got to grips with our product and processes in no time.”

Lee Lane, Landside Services Manager, Manchester Airport
