‘How do I get my vehicles airside at Gatwick?’ – here’s the lowdown
Written by our own Airside Operator Licence Guru, Rebecca Rawlings – advice doesn’t get much better than this!
Outside of the normal regulatory items, you will need:
A Gatwick Authorised Signatory:
To obtain Gatwick Landside or Airside ID Passes for your employees, you need to nominate a member of staff to join the Gatwick ID Scheme where they’ll become a Gatwick Authorised Signatory. Once your company’s Authorised Signatory has been approved he or she will be able to sign for your other employees’ ID Passes. Once an Airside Operators Licence has been obtained (please see below) your Authorised Signatory will also be able to apply for Airside Vehicle Passes too. Contact the Gatwick ID Centre on 0844 335 6886, email idcentre@gatwickairport.com or visit http://www.gatwickairport.com/idcentre/ and complete the Airport ID Scheme enquiry form to begin the Authorised Signatory process.
Secondly, you will need to hold a Gatwick Airside Operators Licence:
If you need to take any vehicles airside at Gatwick, your Authorised Signatory must apply for Airside Vehicle Passes (AVPs) from the Gatwick ID Centre. However, temporary or permanent AVP’s cannot be requested until you’ve obtained an Airside Operators Licence – and that's where AirDAT comes in. We process all of Gatwick’s Airside Operators Licences.
Getting Your Airside Operators Licence
To obtain your AOL you need to:
- Complete the two online application forms, stating how many AVPs you require.
- Forward a signed copy of your Health & Safety policy in PDF format to us.
- Forward a signed copy of your Environment policy in PDF format to us.
- Forward proof of your Airside Liability Insurance in PDF format to us.
- Forward proof of your airside contracts at Gatwick in PDF format to us.
- Forward your Airside Driving Risk Assessment.
To begin completing your AOL application please e-mail us at aol@airdat.org and we will issue you the two application forms and your unique reference number – during this process you will be given the option to upload the supporting documents mentioned above.
Plan Ahead
Please allow 15 working days for processing, from the Date AirDAT receive your completed application – (Please note: your supporting documentation must have sufficient content and must be submitted in the correct format. Documents lacking sufficient information or content or submitted in the wrong format will be rejected, and this will delay your application.
If and when your licence is granted to you, AirDAT will inform the ID Centre and your Authorised Signatory can then submit your completed Airside Vehicles Pass application into the ID Centre.
Please be advised the ID Centre will need 48 hour to process your request. Vehicle passes must only be placed in the windscreen of the vehicle they are applicable for.
Airside Driver Training:
All drivers (other than drivers being escorted) will need to hold an Airside Driving Permit or a corresponding familiarisation card before they can drive any vehicle airside at Gatwick. Before a driver attends a training course, they need to book a medical too (details of some of the approved medical centers can be found here)
To book a driver onto an approved 3rd party airside driver training course, get registered on AirDAT (buttons to the right!)
