This MDI should be read in conjunction with:-
- Gatwick Airport Bye laws
- MDI - Protecting Emergency Exits and Escape Routes Throughout Gatwick
- MDI - Airside Driving & Vehicle Operation - (Attachment - Guidance For Obtaining Airside Vehicle Permits)
1. Introduction
1.1 A procedure has been developed to reduce the amount of illegally
parked and redundant vehicles and equipment left in airside parking areas.
This procedure is intended to assist all companies operating airside by maximising the availability of operational space.
1.2 Illegally parked dollies, vehicles, trailers and other equipment in
airside parking and equipment areas leads to a shortage of operational space, increased congestion on stand and contributes to airfield incidents / accidents.
2. Definitions
2.1 Definition of illegally parked vehicles / equipment - illegally
parked vehicles / equipment are defined as vehicles or equipment that are parked outside the following recognised parking areas:-
a) Head of Stand Equipment Areas - for critical equipment for servicing
and facilitating the turnround of aircraft on stand.
b) Designated / allocated support spaces - these are allocated on
request via the GAL Airside Service Delivery Leader (Tel: 07836 233241) to the Handling Agent / Engineering companies with the purpose of providing additional overflow support spaces. Please note that these spaces may be charged for in future.
c) Additional "buffer" storage spaces - these will be used for longer
term storage, (ie. may not be required every hour, etc.). Requests for these additional "buffer" storage spaces over those identified in paragraphs (a) and (b) above, should be directed to the GAL Airside Service
Delivery Leader (Tel: 07836 233241).
Please note - Gatwick Airport Limited reserve the right to change the overall allocation of spaces based on changes of the business needs of users (ie. changes in airlines handled by each handling agent, etc.).
3. Equipment Identification
3.1 To assist equipment identification in the above process, all items of
equipment should be clearly identifiable with signs of a suitable size, highlighting the name of the operating company. In the case of baggage dollies / ULD trailers, equipment clearly marked each side with the following colours will be acceptable:-
Aviance Cargo Red
British Airways Dark Blue
Menzies Green
Servisair Light Blue
Swissport White
3.2 In the event of non-compliance with the process highlighted in
Appendix A, the vehicle / equipment will be moved to a compound. The compound will be situated at Hangar 4 concrete pan, with the purpose of storing any vehicle / equipment that has been removed due to:-
a) presenting a safety risk on stand
b) preventing the effective operation of a stand
c) is unable to be identified by livery / appropriate markings
d) appears to be redundant and not in use
e) environmental risk
4. Unclaimed Vehicle / Equipment
4.1 Any vehicle / equipment that has been moved to the secure compound
will be photographed and a copy sent to the operator. After a period of 90 days, if it has not been collected, Airfield Operations will take action to have it removed from the airfield.
5. Questions
5.1 Any questions concerning this MDI should be directed to the Airside
Service Delivery Leader - Tel: 07836 233241.
